WE'LL PROCEED WITH OUR AGENDA AS PRINTED. A QUORUM IS PRESENT. PLEASE STAND FOR THE PLEDGES. [III. ALLOWABLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT STUDENT DISCIPLINE, SPECIFIC STUDENT ISSUES OR PERSONNEL MUST BE ADDRESSED THROUGH APPROPRIATE ADMINISTRATIVE CHANNELS IN ACCORDANCE WITH TEXAS OPEN MEETINGS ACT AND BOARD POLICY. MISS HOGAN. ARE THERE ANY COMMENTS? I BELIEVE THERE IS ONE. I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU DIDN'T HAVE. NO, SIR. WE HAVE ONE COMMENT. LUCERO RODRIGUEZ. GOOD EVENING, BOARD OF TRUSTEES, PRESIDENT SELDERS, SUPERINTENDENT, DR. LOPEZ. MY NAME IS LUCERO CASARES RODRIGUEZ. I LIVE AT 8314 MEADOWVIEW STREET, ROWLETT, TEXAS, 75088, AND I WORKED THIS IS GOING TO BE MY 20TH YEAR IN GARLAND ISD. I AM HERE TONIGHT AS TO SPEAK AS THE PRESIDENT OF GARLAND EDUCATION ASSOCIATION. OUR GISD EFFECT HAS CARRIED OUT OUR CAREERS AND NOW WE ARE. I AM PROUD TO SAY THAT I AM THE PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL REGION FOR TSTA, FOR OUR STATE AFFILIATE FOR REGION 18. SO NOW I GET TO REPRESENT GARLAND US ALL THE WAY FROM HERE TO LOUISIANA AND UP THROUGH OKLAHOMA. SO I GET TO HELP THEM BE AS WONDERFUL AS WE ARE. I WOULD LOVE TO THANK YOU FOR OUR RAISES. ALL OF THE MEMBERS THAT HAVE SPOKEN TO AND NONMEMBERS, POTENTIAL MEMBERS THAT HAVE SPOKEN TO HAVE BEEN SO EXCITED. THEY'RE LIKE, HOW COME THE DISTRICT IS NOT PUBLISHING IT? I SAID, I DON'T KNOW, BUT I AM. I WAS LIKE, I AM LETTING YOU KNOW, YES, YOU ARE GETTING A RAISE. THEY'RE LIKE, WE DIDN'T KNOW. I WAS LIKE, AND I GOT TO PLAY OPRAH. I WAS LIKE, YOU GET A RAISE AND YOU GET A RAISE AND YOU GET A RAISE. SO IT WAS FUN. EVERYBODY WAS SO SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THAT, AND I JUST REALLY DID WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR THAT. I KNOW IT WAS A HARD DECISION AND OUR BUDGET REALLY DIDN'T SUPPORT IT, BUT YOU SUPPORT US AND YOU STAND FOR YOUR TEACHERS AND FOR YOUR EMPLOYEES, AND FOR THAT, WE CAN ALWAYS JUST BE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL. WE LOOK FOR OR I LOOK FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT AND COMMITMENT TO WORK TOGETHER FOR THE BETTERMENT OF OUR STUDENTS AND OUR DISTRICT, ALL OF OUR EMPLOYEES, ALL THE WORK WE DO, EVERYTHING WE DO IN THIS BUILDING AND EVERYWHERE THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT IS FOR THE BETTERMENT OF OUR STUDENTS AND I FEEL LIKE THIS BOARD EMBODIES THAT AND DOES THAT FULL HEARTEDLY IN OUR DISTRICT ADMINISTRATOR, OF COURSE. THANK YOU SO MUCH. HAVE A GOOD NIGHT. THANK YOU. WE'LL MOVE TO OUR DISCUSSION ITEMS. DISCUSSION ITEM FIVE A, TRUSTEES REPORT. ONE TRUSTEE ATTENDANCE AT RECENT. I'M SORRY, I DID SKIP FORWARD. SORRY ABOUT THAT. INFORMATION ITEM FOR GOING TO A RECEIVE BOARD OF TRUSTEES CONTRACT RENEWAL REPORT FOR JULY 2024. [IV.A. Receive Board of Trustees Contract Renewal Report for July 2024 - Mark Booker ] MR. BOOKER. I WAS LETTING YOU OFF THE HOOK. YES, SIR. TO MR. PRESIDENT SELDERS, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES TO DOCTOR LOPEZ. WE DO HAVE BEFORE YOU THE JULY CONTRACT RENEWAL REPORT. WE HAVE 23 CONTRACTS FOR RENEWAL, ONE OF WHICH HAS EXCEEDED THE PROVISIONS OF STATE REGULATION, WHICH WILL BE VOTED ON LATER IN THE AGENDA. I'LL BE HAPPY TO ENTERTAIN ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE AS IT RELATES TO THE JULY CONTRACT RENEWAL REPORT. ANY QUESTIONS, TRUSTEES? MR. MILLER? YEAH, JUST REAL QUICK. IN GENERAL MR. BOOKER, WE'VE ALL WATCHED AND FELT INFLATION. THINGS HAPPEN TO US OVER THE LAST 3 OR 4 YEARS. WHAT ARE YOU SEEING FROM YOUR VANTAGE POINT WITH RESPECT TO PRICING AND DIFFERENT THINGS THAT WE HAVE TO PURCHASE FOR THE DISTRICT? [00:05:04] DIFFERENT INDUSTRIES ARE A LITTLE DIFFERENT. I'VE JUST LOOKED AT THE CPI FOR SERVICE, AND IT'S BEEN AVERAGING ANYWHERE BETWEEN 4 TO 6% A YEAR. CERTAIN COMMODITY CODES, WE'RE SEEING 13 TO 14% INCREASES. SO IT'S REALLY DEPENDING ON THE COMMODITY THAT WE'RE PURCHASING AND WE USE THE CONSUMER PRICE INDEX KIND OF AS AN ESTIMATE BASED ON THE COMMODITIES IN WHICH WE'RE PURCHASING. SO WE'RE LOOKING AT LAST YEAR'S INFORMATION, WHAT WE SPENT. THEN LOOK AT THE ACTUAL COMMODITY. LOOK AT WHAT THE CPI. NOW THAT'S JUST CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, AND USE THAT TO ADJUST OUR NUMBERS EACH YEAR. SO WITH RESPECT TO GOING BACK TO COVID, WHEN WE HAD SHORTAGES OF ALMOST EVERYTHING AS THE SHORTAGES HAVE EASED UP OR HAVE THEY EASED UP, I GUESS I SHOULD ASK, HAVE THEY EASED UP? AND IF SO, DO YOU THINK THAT'S HAD ANY IMPACT ON PRICING? AS FAR AS THE HEALTH INDUSTRY, WE HAVEN'T SEEN THE LARGE INCREASES. WE CONTINUE TO SEE INCREASES IN A LOT OF THE TECHNOLOGY. THE COMPONENTS AND CHIPS STILL BECOME A LITTLE HARDER TO RECEIVE, BUT FOR THE MOST PART, WE'VE NOT HAD TO PAY ANY ADDITIONAL OVER ABOVE INFLATION FOR HEALTHCARE NEEDS. THANK YOU. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? THANK YOU, MR. BOOKER. MOVING TO INFORMATION ITEM FOUR B, REVIEW MAY 2024 MONTHLY FINANCIALS, MR. [IV.B. Review May 2024 Monthly Financials - Arturo Valenzuela] VALENZUELA. GOOD EVENING, PRESIDENT SELDERS BOARD TRUSTEES AND DOCTOR LOPEZ. THE ITEM I PRESENT TO YOU TODAY IS THE MAY 2024 MONTHLY FINANCIALS AND ASSET REPORT. AS YOU CAN SEE ON PAGE SIX OF YOUR PACKET, THE PERCENTAGE OF THE GENERAL FUND SPENT IS 84.9% AS OF MAY 2024. GENERAL FUND. THE GENERAL FUND REVENUES COLLECTED AS OF MAY 2024 IS 76%. THE ITEM THAT STANDS OUT IS THE FOUNDATION SCHOOL PROGRAM PROGRAM PAYMENTS. AS OF MAY 2024, WE HAD OBTAINED 58.1% OF THE FUNDING FOR THAT YEAR, AND THEN THE LAST ITEM TO NOTE IN MY REPORT IS ESSER IN PAGE 15 AND 16. AS OF MAY 2024, WE STILL HAD ABOUT 10 MILLION LEFT TO SPEND OUT OF ESSER THREE I ENTERTAIN ANY QUESTIONS. THANK YOU FOR THAT REPORT TRUSTEES. ANY QUESTIONS? MR. GLICK THANK YOU SIR. THERE WAS A REPORT THAT THE HOUSE COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION IS SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING SERIOUS CUTS TO TITLE FUNDING. AS MUCH AS 25 TO 30% IS THE NUMBER I HEARD, OR MAYBE EVEN GREATER. WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO DO SOME RESEARCH FOR THE. NOT NOT TONIGHT, OBVIOUSLY. DO SOME RESEARCH AND INDICATE, SHOULD THAT BILL GO THROUGH WHAT THE EFFECT WOULD BE FOR US? YES. I CAN CERTAINLY SPEAK THE RIGHT MINDS AND GET YOU AN ANSWER. GOOD. THANK YOU. THANK YOU SIR. SURE. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? THANK YOU FOR THAT. ALL RIGHT. MOVING ON NOW TO INFORMATION ITEM FOUR C, REVIEW MAY 2024 TAX REPORT. [IV.C. Review May 2024 Tax Report - Kristi Cooper] MISS COOPER. MISS COOPER WAS NOT ABLE TO JOIN US TONIGHT, BUT I'LL BE SPEAKING ON HER BEHALF. THANK YOU. SO THE ITEM I PRESENT TO YOU IS THE MAY COLLECTION REPORT REFLECTING 98.04% OF THE 2023 BASE LEVY. THERE WERE FIVE OVERPAYMENTS FOR REFUNDS THAT EXCEED $500 DURING THE MONTH OF MAY, AND THAT'S PRETTY MUCH IT. THANK YOU. TRUSTEES, ANY QUESTIONS? NO QUESTIONS. THANK YOU FOR THAT. THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT. NOW WE'RE GOING TO MOVE TO FIVE DISCUSSION ITEMS WHERE WE WILL HEAR THE TRUSTEES REPORT. [V.A. Trustees' Report] TRUSTEES ATTENDANCE AT RECENT DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY EVENTS TO ANNOUNCEMENT OF UPCOMING DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY EVENTS. THREE RECOGNITION OF OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY DISTRICT STAFF AND STUDENTS, AND THEN FOUR RECOGNITION OF NEW PROGRAMS AND SPECIAL ACTIVITIES. WE WILL START THIS TIME TO MY RIGHT WITH MISS GRIFFIN. THANK YOU, PRESIDENT SELDERS. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY THAT AS WE HAD A VERY SHORT SUMMER THAT I AM THANKFUL FOR STAFF WHO HAVE COMPLETED A LOT OF WORK IN THE DISTRICT AND ON OUR CAMPUSES, AND KEEPING UP WITH THE BOND PROJECTS. AS YOU TRAVEL THROUGH THE TRI CITIES, YOU CAN ESPECIALLY SEE THE WORK THAT'S BEING COMPLETED AND THE DEDICATION FOR TRYING TO HAVE AS MUCH COMPLETED FOR US TO BEGIN SCHOOL WITH EVERYTHING OF NORMAL CONSTRUCTION WORK BASICALLY COMPLETED. SO HATS OFF TO ALL OF THE STAFF MEMBERS THAT HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN DOING THAT WORK AND KEEPING IT CURRENT AND BEING BUSY AND KNOWING THAT FIRST IMPRESSION ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR OUR CHILDREN. [00:10:04] THERE HAVE BEEN ACTIVITIES EVERY WEEK, EVERY OTHER DAY SINCE THE CLOSE OF MAY, AND I WON'T GO THROUGH MY ENTIRE LIST, BUT I WILL TALK ABOUT THE MOST RECENT ACTIVITIES AND HATS OFF TO OUR COUNCIL OF PTA. WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN SUPERSTARS AS IT RELATES TO OUR PARTICIPATION AS A DISTRICT IN ORGANIZATIONS THAT HAVE A LOCAL, STATE AND NATIONAL UMBRELLA. SO THE PTA LAUNCH WAS DONE LAST WEEK, AND WE HAD PROBABLY OVER 100 AND SOME PARTICIPANTS FROM GARLAND, INCLUDING PRINCIPALS, BUT THE ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THAT CONFERENCE WAS THERE WAS AN AWARD GIVEN TO THE MOST OUTSTANDING EDUCATORS OF THE YEAR, AND MISS ANNA GARCIA WAS THE ELEMENTARY TEACHER OF THE YEAR FROM WALNUT GLEN ACADEMY FOR EXCELLENCE PTA FOR THROUGH GARLAND ISD. SHE WAS THERE, WALNUT GLEN WAS THERE, HER FAMILY WAS THERE, AND THAT WAS A BIG IT WAS A BIG PRODUCTION. IT WAS A LARGE CONFERENCE, AND I JUST THINK RIGHT NOW, LIKE, FOR US TO GIVE HER A BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE. I AM SURE WE MAY SEE HER LATER IN THE SCHOOL YEAR, AND SHE ACTUALLY HAD TO GIVE AN ACCEPTANCE SPEECH, WHICH SHE DID AN EXTRAORDINARY JOB. THE OTHER THING THAT HAPPENED AT THAT CONFERENCE WAS WE'RE ALWAYS BEING CHOSEN AS PILOTS FOR MANY THINGS THAT THE NATIONAL PTA AND THE STATE PTA WANTS TO DO, AND THERE IS A NEW FAMILY FIRE SAFETY PROGRAM THAT'S BEING ROLLED OUT, AND HARTFORD ELEMENTARY WAS THE PILOT THAT HOSTED A PROGRAM AT THEIR SCHOOL, BUT THE BEAUTY WAS THEY WERE PRESENTERS, ALONG WITH OTHER DISTRICTS THAT HAD PARTICIPATED IN THIS FAMILY FIRE SAFETY, AND THEY DID AN EXCELLENT JOB. SO LET'S JUST GIVE THEM A ROUND OF APPLAUSE, AND OUR EX-PTA PRESIDENT OF TWO YEARS AGO OR THREE YEARS AGO THAT TOOK US THROUGH COVID TRACEY BERGFIELD IS NOW THE SECRETARY OF THE TEXAS STATE PTA. SO IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE RECOGNIZE THE WORK THAT OUR STAFF MEMBERS DO OVER AND ABOVE THE CALL OF DUTY, BECAUSE WHEN YOU LEAVE THE CONFERENCES, THEY DON'T REMEMBER THAT PERSON'S NAME. WHAT THEY REMEMBER IS GARLAND ISD. SO I JUST WANT TO CONGRATULATE THEM, AND MY LAST COMMENT, AND USUALLY I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY. SO I AM STARTING THE YEAR OFF GOOD THIS TIME WAS THE MULTI-LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT. THEY HAD AB CON, WHICH IS THEIR TRAINING SESSION, AND I WAS FORTUNATE TO SIT THROUGH A COUPLE OF THOSE SESSIONS. ONE WAS MOVING UP TIPS. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M GOING TO MOVE UP TO, BUT I SAT THROUGH IT AND IT WAS VERY INFORMATIVE, AND I APPRECIATED THAT INFORMATION, AND THEN I SAT THROUGH ANOTHER ONE CONNECTING THE CULTURE. SO IF THAT'S THE KIND OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT THAT'S BEING ROLLED OUT, DOCTOR LOPEZ, I THINK WE'RE LOOKING PRETTY GOOD FOR THE UPCOMING YEAR BECAUSE THERE WERE A LOT OF PEOPLE THERE, AND EVERYONE'S READY AND EXCITED TO LEARN MORE. SO HATS OFF TO THE MULTI-LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT. THANK YOU. THANK YOU, MISS GRIFFIN, MR. MILLER. YEAH, I'LL BE REAL BRIEF. REALLY, THE ONLY DISTRICT EVENT I ATTENDED WASN'T REALLY A DISTRICT EVENT, BUT IT INVOLVED A LOT OF DISTRICT KIDS, AND IT WAS A BOXING EXHIBITION MATCH THAT WAS HELD THIS PAST WEEKEND AND I'M NOT GOING TO SAY ANYTHING ELSE. I'M GOING TO LET MISS STANLEY WHO WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN THE ORGANIZATION OF THIS EVENT. I'LL LET HER TALK ABOUT IT, BUT I'M JUST GOING TO TELL YOU IT WAS ONE OF THE COOLER THINGS I'VE BEEN TO, AND IF YOU WHEN YOU HEAR ABOUT IT, WHEN YOU DO HEAR ABOUT IT AGAIN NEXT YEAR, GO. IT'S PRETTY AWESOME. THESE ARE KIDS THAT WORK HARD, DON'T GET A LOT OF RECOGNITION. THE ONE DATA POINT THAT I WILL MENTION IN CASE MISS STANLEY FORGETS, IS THAT WHAT I HEARD FROM THE LEADER OF THE BOXING CLUB [00:15:04] IS THAT IT IS CURRENTLY THE LARGEST BOXING CLUB IN THE COUNTRY, AND WE'VE GOT IT RIGHT HERE IN GARLAND, TEXAS, DOWNTOWN GARLAND, AND IT'S SERVING A LOT OF KIDS, AND I'LL LET HER EXPOUND MORE, BUT CONGRATULATIONS TO THEM FOR ALL THAT. I WOULD LIKE TO SAY. I HOPE ALL OF OUR TEACHERS ARE RESTING AND READY TO GO BECAUSE IT'S COMING UP HERE PRETTY QUICK. ONE WEEK, ONE ONE MORE WEEK, AND SO I HOPE EVERYBODY'S READY TO GO, AND ENJOYED YOUR BREAK. WE AS A BOARD. I HOPE I CAN SPEAK FOR THE BOARD, BUT WE AS A BOARD DEPEND ON OUR TEACHERS, INSTRUCTORS AND STAFF, ALL ADMINISTRATORS. SO MUCH TO GET THESE KIDS OVER THE OVER THE HURDLES THAT THEY FACE, AND WE KNOW THAT IT'S A BIG LIFT. YOU'VE HEARD ME SAY BEFORE, I HAVE A DAUGHTER WHO IS A TEACHER AND I GET TO LISTEN TO IT EVERY TIME WE'RE TOGETHER, AND IT'S A BIG ASK, AND WE'RE REALLY, REALLY PROUD OF THE WORK YOU DO, AND I JUST WANT TO ENCOURAGE YOU, AS WE HEAD INTO THIS NEXT SEASON AND ENCOURAGE YOU, ENCOURAGE YOU TO KEEP DOING A GREAT JOB FOR THE KIDS. THANK YOU. THANK YOU, MR. MILLER. MR. GLICK. THANK YOU, SIR. THIS MORNING WAS ROWLETT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. TWO INTERESTING THINGS. ROWLETT IS NOW THE FASTEST GROWING CITY IN DALLAS COUNTY, WHICH KIND OF SURPRISED ME, AND TWO, I HAD ASKED FOR A PRESENTATION ON WHERE WE STAND WITH THE EXTENSION OF GEORGE BUSH. YOU MAY NOT KNOW IT'S ACTUALLY SUPPOSED TO GO SOUTHWARD THROUGH TO 20 AND 80, AND HAVEN'T HEARD A WORD ABOUT IT. SO THE PRESENTATION THIS MORNING WAS THAT. YES, IT'S STILL ON THE BOARDS. THERE'LL BE PUBLIC HEARINGS HELD NEXT YEAR IF THINGS GO IN TERMS OF ENVIRONMENTAL, OBVIOUSLY LAND ACQUISITION, POTENTIALLY LESS THAN TEN YEARS FROM NOW, WE'LL HAVE THE EXTENSION DONE. SO I THINK THAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FOR OBVIOUSLY IT PASSES THROUGH ALL OF OUR CITIES AND IT'LL BE GREAT WHEN IT GOES THROUGH. I HAD BEEN ASKED TO SPEAK AT THE CEREMONY FOR DR. HAMMERLE AT ROWLETT HIGH SCHOOL, BUT WHEN IT WAS MOVED UP BECAUSE OF HER BEING VERY ILL, I WASN'T ABLE TO SPEAK. THANK YOU, MR. MILLER, FOR SPEAKING. I WOULD LIKE TO TELL ONE STORY. I HAD A WHOLE BUNCH OF STORIES, BUT I THINK THIS IS KIND OF A STORY DOCTOR HAMMERLE WOULD LIKE ME TO TELL, BECAUSE SHE WAS KNOWN AS A REALLY TOUGH PRINCIPAL. ONE OF THE THINGS I REMEMBER HER TELLING ME, SHE SAID, I GOT MY WORK DONE WHILE THE KIDS WERE IN CLASS. AS SOON AS THAT BELL RANG, I WAS OUT IN THE HALLWAYS. THEY ALWAYS SAW ME. THEY SAW ME IN THE MORNING. THEY SAW ME IN THE HALLWAYS. THEY SAW ME AT LUNCH, AND AT ONE POINT AFTER SHE GOT MARRIED, SHE WAS ALWAYS CALLED THE HAMMER AND HAD THAT REPUTATION. SO THIS WAS EARLY JANUARY, MY DAUGHTER'S SENIOR YEAR, AND BOTH OF MY KIDS DID GRADUATE FROM ROWLETT HIGH SCHOOL, AND I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT. I SAID, DR. HAMMERLE. THE CODE OF STUDENT CODE SAYS KIDS ARE ONLY IN THE SENIOR YEAR, ALLOWED TWO DAYS TO VISIT COLLEGES, AND I THINK IT STILL EXISTS, BY THE WAY, AND I SAID, MY DAUGHTER, AS YOU KNOW, IS A GREAT MUSICIAN AND SHE HAS AUDITIONS, LITERALLY FROM SAN FRANCISCO CONSERVATORY TO OBERLIN TO NORTHWESTERN TO UT, TO SMU TO THE EAST COAST MAJOR CONSERVATORIES THERE AND INCLUDING JUILLIARD AND EASTMAN. I SAID, THERE'S NO WAY I COULD GET IT DONE IN TWO DAYS. IT'S IMPOSSIBLE, AND SHE TALKED ABOUT HAVING JUST SEEN MY DAUGHTER PERFORM WITH THE DALLAS CHILDREN'S CHORUS AT THE MEYERSON, AND SHE SAID, LISTEN, LET'S KEEP THIS A SECRET. WHAT I'VE DONE IN THE PAST IF, AND SHE SAID, WE'VE HAD GREAT BASEBALL STUDENTS AND WE'VE HAD GREAT FOOTBALL STUDENTS, NOT BASKETBALL, AND I MADE A DECISION THAT IF THOSE STUDENTS WERE EITHER ALL-STATE OR ALL-AMERICAN, I WOULD KIND OF FUDGE THE AMOUNT OF TIME THEY WERE ALLOWED TO BE OUT, AND SHE SAID, YOUR DAUGHTER IS BOTH. SO LET'S JUST KEEP IT A SECRET AND I'LL GIVE YOU FIVE DAYS. LET'S NOT TELL TEA WHAT I DID. THAT WAS THE SIDE OF DOCTOR HAMMERLE MOST PEOPLE DIDN'T KNOW. SHE LOVED THE KIDS, BUT SHE FELT WHILE SHE WAS IN THEIR PRESENCE, SHE HAD TO BE TOUGH, BUT THERE WAS ANOTHER SIDE OF HER THAT I REALLY [00:20:03] ADMIRED. SO THANK YOU, SIR. YOU'RE WELCOME. THANK YOU, MR. GLICK. MR. BEACH. THANK YOU, MR. SELDERS. FIRST OF ALL, KUDOS TO THE 9TH STREET BOXING GROUP YOUTH GROUP AGAIN. I WENT ALSO FOR THE SOLD OUT AT CCC. PHENOMENAL PROGRAM. THANK YOU, PLANET FORD. REALLY APPRECIATE THAT, AND ALL THE TIME THAT WE HAD THERE. ALSO CONDOLENCES FOR THE HAMMERLE FAMILY. I DID TALK TO STEVE AFTER EVERYTHING TOOK PLACE AND LET HIM KNOW THAT HE WAS HIM AND MARLENE BOTH WERE GISD FAMILY AND LEFT MY CONDOLENCES TO THEM. THEN TODAY I WENT TO THE NEW EMPLOYEE BLOCK PARTY THAT WE HAD AT THE TRIPLE C, SO THE ALL THE NEW EMPLOYEES AND KUDOS AND HATS OFF TO MR. SELDERS AND ALSO DOCTOR LOPEZ UNDER THEIR TALK TO OUR NEW EMPLOYEES AND WHAT THEY TOLD THEM, AND AN ENTHUSIASTIC TIME THAT WE HAD THERE TO SEE THE SMILES ON THEIR FACE, AND I HOPE THAT THEY UNDERSTAND THAT WHEN YOU GET INTO THE CLASSROOM, HAVE FUN WITH THE STUDENTS, ENJOY YOURSELF, HAVE THE JOY. YOU'LL BE SURPRISED WHAT YOU'LL COME OUT OF IT, AND I KNOW THAT PUT A SMILE ON YOUR FACE, BECAUSE A LOT OF STUDENTS THAT MAY BE THE ONLY SMILE THEY EVER DO. SEE ALSO, I WAS ABLE TO GO TO NORTH GARLAND HIGH SCHOOL AND SPEAK TO THE FACILITIES AND MAINTENANCE TRAINING. THEY ALL CAME TOGETHER IN THE AUDITORIUM AND WELCOME THE OLD EMPLOYEES BACK FOR AND ALL THE EMPLOYEES BACK FOR THE 24-25 SCHOOL YEAR, AND WHAT REALLY GOT ME MOTIVATED MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE, THEY WERE GIVING OUT YEARS OF SERVICE PINS, AND WE HAVE A CUSTODIAN IN GISD GOT A 40 YEAR PIN, 40 YEARS AS A CUSTODIAN. THAT'S PRETTY DEDICATED TO YOUR JOB. SO THANK YOU AGAIN FOR THAT INDIVIDUAL AND ALL THE BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS THAT YOU PUT IN, AND ALSO ON OUR TRUSTEES REPORT ON NUMBER THREE IT SAYS RECOGNITION OF OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY DISTRICT STAFF AND STUDENTS. WELL, TOMORROW WE HAVE AN INDIVIDUAL, IT'S HER BIRTHDAY MECHELLE HOGAN. IT IS! [LAUGHTER] IT IS, AND I TELL YOU WHAT, I WANT TO GIVE MY HATS OFF TO MECHELLE AND ALL THE THINGS THAT SHE NOT ONLY HAS DONE FOR THIS BOARD FOR ME PERSONALLY, TOO, BUT MECHELLE IS DOING AN OUTSTANDING JOB AND I JUST WANT TO WISH HER A HAPPY BIRTHDAY. THANK YOU. THANK YOU, MR. BEACH. MR. JOHNSON. I'M GOING TO BE EVEN BRIEFER THAN MR. MILLER. I'M REALLY FORTUNATE FOR JULY BECAUSE I'M PRETTY MUCH ABLE TO SCHEDULE EVERYTHING I NEED TO DO IN LIFE IN JULY, BECAUSE THE SCHOOL DISTRICT IS BASICALLY SHUT DOWN TO SOME DEGREE, BUT AS I'VE BEEN REMINDED THIS WEEK, EVERY MORNING AT 5:30 SCHOOL YEAR IS ALREADY HERE BASICALLY FOR US. SO MY KIDS ARE ALREADY REPORTED TO THEIR BAND CAMPS, AND THAT DOESN'T END ANYMORE BETWEEN NOW AND NEXT MAY. SO EFFECTIVELY IT'S DONE. I HAVE NOT ATTENDED ANY SPECIFIC DISTRICT EVENTS OVER THE LAST FEW WEEKS, THOUGH, AND I'M GOING TO REST UP BECAUSE I HAVE A FEELING I'M GOING TO BE IN A LOT IN THE NEXT MONTH, SO THANK YOU. THANK YOU, MR. JOHNSON. MISS STANLEY. I WON'T GO OVER ANYTHING THAT I ATTENDED OF THE OTHER THINGS, BUT I WILL JUST TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE NINTH STREET BOXING GYM, BECAUSE YOU GUYS HAVE HEARD ME SPEAK OF THIS. SO IT WAS THEIR INAUGURAL FUNDRAISER. SO THEY ARE THE LARGEST BOXING GYM IN THE COUNTRY, BUT THEY DO THIS WITHOUT A PERMANENT FACILITY, SO THEY CAN'T THEY DEPEND 100% ON HAVING DEFINED BOXERS IN THE AREA THAT THEY CAN MATCH THEIR KIDS TO BOX, SO THAT THEY CAN CONTINUE TO CLIMB THE LADDER AND BECOME OUR JUNIOR OLYMPICS, AND I DON'T THINK ANYBODY QUITE, IT TOOK ME A WHILE TO GRASP WHAT THAT MEANT. SO THAT MEANT THAT THEY DON'T GET TO HOST THE BOXING MATCHES AND PEOPLE DON'T COME TO THEM, EVEN THOUGH THEY'RE TOP RANKED. THEY HAVE TO GO OUT EVERY PLACE ELSE TO KEEP THEIR KIDS CLIMBING THAT LADDER, AND THEY'VE GOT SO MANY SUCCESS STORIES. IT'S SCARY. SO ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO, I GOT MISS SHEENA SHARAPOVA ON THE JOB WITH PLANET 635, AND SO SHE IT WAS REALLY HER FUNDRAISING EVENT, AND NEXT YEAR WE'RE GOING TO HOPEFULLY TAKE IT TO THE MAIN PART OF IT, BUT THANK YOU TO THE BOARD AND THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, DOCTOR LOPEZ, FOR SUPPORTING ME AS I CHAMPIONED THEM, BUT I THINK THE BEST PART OF THE NIGHT WAS WATCHING THOSE SIX YEAR-OLDS, SIX YEAR-OLDS BOX, AND QUITE FRANKLY, I THINK THEY MIGHT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO TAKE ME. THEY WERE PRETTY AMAZING, WERE THEY NOT? I MEAN, I THOUGHT THEY WERE MORE AMAZING THAN THE ADULTS WHO BOXED. I THOUGHT WE GOT MORE OF A SHOW OUT OF THOSE KIDS, AND THEY WANTED IT WHEN THEY LOST THE WORLD KIND OF CAME A LITTLE BIT SHUDDERING DOWN FOR THEM. [00:25:07] THAT'S HOW MUCH THEY WANTED IT. SO IT WAS AN AMAZING EVENT. THANK EVERYONE WHO CAME LOOKED FOR NEXT YEAR AND IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR WAYS TO SPEND YOUR DISCRETIONARY INCOME, YOU JUST CALL ON THEM. SO THANK YOU EVERYONE. I'M GOING TO END WITH THAT. THANK YOU, MISS STANLEY. JUST WANTED TO JUST EXPRESS THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS TO THE HAMMERLE FAMILY, AS WELL AS THOSE FAMILIES IN OUR DISTRICT THAT HAVE HAD LOVED ONES TRANSITION. YOU KNOW, THERE'S A LOT OF HUSTLE AND BUSTLE THAT GOES AROUND AND HAPPENS IN THE DISTRICT. LOTS OF ACTIVITY, BUT THOSE ARE SOBERING THOUGHTS WHEN YOU KNOW YOU HAVE SOMEONE TRANSITION AND THEY MEAN SO MUCH. SO JUST THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS TO THOSE FAMILIES. WANTED TO THANK MR. BEACH FOR ATTENDING THE FACILITIES AND MAINTENANCE LUNCHEON FOR ME. I HAD TO TRAVEL THAT WEEK, AND HE WAS MORE THAN WILLING TO ATTEND ON MY BEHALF AND SHARE SOME WORDS WITH THAT GROUP. SO I REALLY APPRECIATE YOU AND ALSO THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO WERE AT THE LUNCHEON, I APOLOGIZE, I COULDN'T BE THERE, BUT WE REALLY THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO ON BEHALF OF THE DISTRICT. ALSO, LIKE MISS GRIFFIN, I ATTENDED THE LAUNCH FOR THE TEXAS PTA. I HAD NO IDEA IT WOULD BE THAT BIG. SEEING ALL OF THOSE INDIVIDUALS ARE PART OF THAT ORGANIZATION, AND I WAS ABLE TO ATTEND A REALLY GOOD SESSION ON CONFLICT RESOLUTION. SO IT WAS REALLY VERY EXCITING AND VERY ANIMATED DISCUSSIONS THAT WE HAD AT THAT SESSION. WANTED TO SEND A SHOUT OUT TO MS. SHEENA AND DAPHNE AS IT RELATES TO THE NINTH STREET BOXING EVENT, BUT ALSO WANT TO HIGHLIGHT THE CCC, AND JOHN WILBURN AND HIS CREW. THEY ALWAYS DO A PHENOMENAL JOB ACCOMMODATING AND MAKING SURE THAT THE EVENTS THAT ARE HOSTED THERE ARE TOP NOTCH. SO HATS OFF TO THAT CREW. I WAS ABLE TO ATTEND A COMMUNITY BACK TO SCHOOL BLOCK PARTY AT WEBB MIDDLE SCHOOL TO PROVIDE FOR STUDENTS, FAMILIES AND COMMUNITY WITH OUR DISTRICT PARTNERS. THEY WERE PROVIDING SHOES, HAIRCUTS, HAIRSTYLES, A LOT OF INFORMATION ON ADDITIONAL SERVICES, AND I GOT A CHANCE TO MEET AND TALK WITH SOME REPRESENTATIVES FROM VARIOUS ORGANIZATIONS AND DEPARTMENTS WITHIN THE DISTRICT THAT BENEFIT OUR STUDENTS AND OUR FAMILIES, AND SO MEETING THEM AND TRYING TO CONNECT THEM WITH OTHER INDIVIDUALS WAS REALLY COOL. SO HATS OFF TO KAT BEARDEN. SHE'S A TEACHER AT WEBB MIDDLE SCHOOL AS WELL AS PRINCIPAL WILSON. THEY DID A WONDERFUL JOB ORGANIZING THAT EVENT. I UNDERSTAND IT WAS THE SECOND YEAR THAT THEY DID IT, AND THEY'RE LOOKING TO MAKE IT EVEN BIGGER NEXT YEAR. SO THAT WAS REALLY, REALLY COOL, AND THEN I ATTENDED THE NEW EMPLOYEE BLOCK PARTY. I HAD NO IDEA THAT THING WAS GOING TO BE AS BIG AS IT WAS. LIKE, I WALK IN THERE AND I'M SEEING, LIKE THIS BIG PARTY AND IT'S LIKE LITERALLY A PARTY AND IT'S SO CRAZY BECAUSE I WAS LIKE, OKAY, I HAVE TO SPEAK TO ALL OF THESE PEOPLE TODAY. SO MY ANXIETY KIND OF SHOT UP A LITTLE BIT, AND SO BUT I UNDERSTAND THAT WE WELCOMED OVER 600 NEW EMPLOYEES TO THE DISTRICT, AND THAT IS PHENOMENAL. WHETHER THEY WERE NEW TO THE DISTRICT OR FIRST YEAR TEACHERS, I THOUGHT THAT WAS REALLY COOL, AND THE THEME OF WELCOME HOME, LIKE, I THOUGHT THAT WAS VERY FITTING, AND SO THERE WAS A LOT OF EXCITEMENT, A LOT OF ENERGY IN THE SPACE, AND AS I WAS WALKING INTO THE CCC, I HAPPENED TO CATCH SOME VIDEO, I THINK ROWLETT CHEERLEADERS AND SOME OF THEIR DRUMLINE WERE OUT THERE GREETING PEOPLE AS THEY CAME IN AND IT LOOKED LIKE, YOU KNOW THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL, AND EVERYBODY WAS EXCITED AS THEY WALKED INTO THE CCC, AND SO I JUST HOPE THAT A LOT OF EVERYBODY THAT WAS THERE FELT WELCOMED AND FELT THAT ENERGY AND EXCITEMENT FOR US, AND SO WHEN I GOT UP TO SPEAK, YOU KNOW, I JUST WAS REMINDED SOMETHING MY DAD WOULD ALWAYS TELL ME. IT'S LIKE WHEN YOU'RE PUBLIC SPEAKING OR WHEN YOU'RE GOING TO STAND UP TO SPEAK YOU WANT TO BE HEARD, YOU WANT TO BE BRIEF AND YOU WANT TO BE SEATED, AND SO I TRIED TO KEEP THAT IN MIND WHEN I GOT UP THERE AND WAS, WAS ADDRESSING EVERYONE, BUT ONE THOUGHT THAT I WILL SHARE WITH YOU THAT KIND OF CAME TO ME AS I WAS THERE AND IT WAS SORT OF LIKE HEARING DOCTOR LOPEZ SEEING THE EXCITEMENT OF THE DAY AND DIFFERENT CONVERSATIONS THAT I'VE HAD WITH DIFFERENT PEOPLE IN THE DISTRICT. THIS IDEA OF THE GARLAND ISD WAY TO ME THIS IS, YOU KNOW, AS I KIND OF THINK ABOUT IT AND I SHARED THAT WHAT WE DO IS THAT WE GROW STUDENTS AND WE GRADUATE GREATNESS, AND THAT SUMMED IT UP FOR ME, AND THAT WAS SORT OF THE THOUGHT THAT I HAD AS I WATCHED ALL OF THOSE INDIVIDUALS THERE. YOU KNOW, STARTING OUT IN THE DISTRICT, EITHER AGAIN, FIRST DAY OR FIRST TIME IN THE DISTRICT OR NEW TEACHERS AND [00:30:08] WHAT THEY'RE GOING TO BE HELPING TO CREATE FOR OUR STUDENTS AND OUR GISD COMMUNITY. SO WITH THAT, I'LL TURN IT OVER TO YOU, DOCTOR LOPEZ, FOR YOUR SUPERINTENDENT REPORT. OH, I THINK YOU'RE MISSING A REAL INTERESTING PART TO THE STORY, SO. OH, YEAH, YEAH. YOU GOT TO SHARE THAT. WELL, SO RIGHT AFTER THE EVENT I WAS JUST STANDING UP, TALKING TO A FEW PEOPLE AND OUT OF SORT OF THE SIDE OF MY EYE, I SEE THIS BIG GUY AND HE CALLS MY NAME AND I TURN AROUND, AND IT WAS ONE OF MY FORMER TEAMMATES FROM SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY WHEN I PLAYED FOOTBALL. I HADN'T SEEN HIM. HIS NAME IS MARK FLUKER. HE'S GOING TO BE A SCIENCE TEACHER AT BUSSEY MIDDLE SCHOOL. I HADN'T SEEN HIM IN OVER 30 YEARS AND SO HE'S NEW TO OUR DISTRICT. SO I WAS REALLY AWESOME TO SEE HIM AND CATCH UP WITH HIM A LITTLE BIT. SO YEAH, WHEN YOU SEE THOSE TEAMMATES IT'S A SPECIAL CONNECTION THAT YOU GUYS HAVE. IT WAS REALLY NEAT TO SEE HIM LIGHT UP. NOTHING SURPRISES ROBERT. HE'S VERY STOIC AND. [CHUCKLING] SO BELIEVE IT OR NOT, AND WHEN I SAW HIM LIGHT UP I'M LIKE, I KNOW THIS GUY'S SPECIAL, SO THAT WAS PRETTY GOOD. WE'VE BEEN TOGETHER AROUND AS FATHERS WATCHING OUR KIDS PLAY VOLLEYBALL, AND WE'VE SEEN THEM IN THEIR HIGHS AND LOWS, AND, YOU KNOW HE HAS SOME REMARKABLE YOUNG LADIES, AND I'VE [V.B. Superintendent's Report] SEEN THEM DO GREAT THINGS, AND SOMETIMES I'M MORE EXCITED THAN HIM. HE'S ALWAYS COOL. SO WHEN I SAW HIM GET EXCITED ABOUT SEEING SOMEBODY, I KNEW THAT PERSON WAS DEAR TO YOU. IT WAS NEAT TO SEE. YOU KNOW THERE'S A LOT OF THINGS THAT WE'RE CELEBRATING. IT'S AN OFFICIAL KICKOFF, Y'ALL. NEW TEACHER ORIENTATION ALREADY STARTED. BAND PRACTICE ALREADY STARTED. IT'S JULY. THE FEVER IS IN THE AIR AND EVERYBODY'S EXCITED ABOUT THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR. YOU SEE, WE HAVE A LOT OF THINGS IN MOTION. YOU KNOW, THE BOARD IS REALLY CONCERNED TO MAKE SURE THE FIRST DAY FEELS GOOD FROM THE CONSOLIDATIONS THAT THE BOARD BRINGS UP TO MAKE SURE WE'RE KICKING OFF FROM THAT TO MAKING JUST SURE EVERYBODY'S HIRED, EVERYTHING'S FLOWING, AND WE'VE GOT A GREAT SYNERGY. WE CALL IT THE GISD EFFECT. RIGHT? THE GISD MAGIC, AND IT'S REALLY GOOD TO SEE. SO THERE'S FROM HERE ON OUT, IT'S JUST GOING TO BE NONSTOP AND IT'S GOING TO BE A BLUR. UNFORTUNATELY, WE HAD SOME EVENTS HAPPEN THAT WERE CELEBRATING PEOPLE, BUT JUST IN THE NICK OF TIME BEFORE PASSING, YOU KNOW, WE TALKED ABOUT MARLENE HAMMERLE AND HER IMPACT OF ROWLETT HIGH SCHOOL, AND RIGHT BEFORE HER TRANSITION, WE WERE ABLE TO GO AHEAD AND NAME THE AUDITORIUM AFTER HER, AND SO SHE WAS ABLE TO FEEL THAT MAGIC, AND I WANT TO THANK BRENDA MONK FOR BEING THE PERSON THAT REALLY SPEARHEADED THAT AND MADE THAT HAPPEN. WE'VE HAD OTHER NOTABLE PEOPLE THAT HAVE PASSED AS WELL. I BELIEVE DICK [INAUDIBLE] IS I THINK THAT'S HOW YOU SAY IT [INAUDIBLE]. THAT'S THE PERSON THAT OPENED THE AEC, YOU KNOW? SO THERE'S A LOT OF PROMINENT PEOPLE THAT MADE AN IMPACT IN OUR DISTRICT, AND, YOU KNOW, OUR PRAYERS AND THOUGHTS ARE WITH THEIR FAMILIES. FINALLY, WHAT I WANT TO DO IS TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE NINTH STREET GYM. I REMEMBER WHEN MISS STANLEY CAME UP TO ME AND TALKED TO ME ABOUT THE HURDLES, YOU KNOW, I MEAN, THERE'S SO MANY. IT'S SO MANY MOVING PARTS. IT'S NOT FLIPPING A SWITCH, AND THEN YOU HAVE THIS EVENT, RIGHT, AND YOU KNOW, WE'RE TRYING TO SET A DATE. WE'RE TRYING TO GET EVERYTHING DONE AND BELIEVE IT OR NOT A MIDDLE OF JULY DATE ISN'T AN EASY SELL. OKAY, AND SO IT'S SOLD OUT, AND NOT ONLY DID IT SELL OUT, PEOPLE WERE SHOWING UP TO BUY TICKETS ON A SOLD OUT EVENT. THAT'S ALWAYS A GOOD SIGN, AND SO WHAT WE'RE HOPING IS THAT PEOPLE GET A TASTE OF OF THAT AND IT JUST GETS BIGGER AND BIGGER. I WOULD LOVE ONE DAY AND I KNOW IT'S YOUR DREAM, TOO, TO HAVE THE ARENA FILLED WITH JUST PEOPLE WATCHING OUR PRODUCT AND EVERYTHING THAT'S GOING ON TO REALLY JUST BENEFIT THE BOXING GYM. FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT DON'T KNOW THE BOXING GYM, IT SAVES SO MANY LIVES. YOU HAVE OVER 200 BOXERS THAT GO THROUGH THERE, AND SOMETIMES THAT IS THEIR SANCTUARY. THAT IS THEIR WAY OF GETTING AWAY FROM ALL THE HUSTLE AND BUSTLE IN LIFE AND FINDING A PRODUCTIVE WAY TO JUST ENGAGE AND GET THE BEST OUT OF THEMSELVES. WE HAVE A FUTURE OLYMPIAN WHO KNOWS TO SAY WE DON'T HAVE TWO, THREE, FOUR OR MORE COMING OUT OF THAT GYM. SO WHEN YOU HAVE A CHANCE LOOK IT UP. DONATE, DO WHATEVER YOU CAN, BECAUSE IT IS AN IMPACTFUL THING, AND A LITTLE A LITTLE SIDE NOTE, THE LITTLES THAT CAME OUT WHEN THEY FIRST CAME OUT, THEY SAID LITTLE 55 POUNDS, 55 POUNDERS, GUYS COMING OUT TO FIGHT, AND MR. BEACH WAS AT OUR TABLE. ROBERT WAS AT OUR TABLE. JAMIE WAS BEHIND US. YOU WERE AT THE OTHER TABLE, AND I WAS WATCHING EVERYBODY BECAUSE I SAW THE LITTLES COME OUT AND LIKE, ALL THE DADS STOOD UP LIKE, OH, WOW, AND LIKE, ALL THE LADIES [00:35:04] STARTED COVERING THEIR EYES, YOU KNOW, THEY'RE LIKE, NO, THEY'RE TOO LITTLE! YOU KNOW, BUT THEN THEY'RE LOOKING THROUGH THEIR FINGERS, RIGHT AND THEN GETTING EXCITED ABOUT IT BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, THE KIDS. IT WASN'T LIKE JUST LOVE TAPS. THESE KIDS ARE TRAINED FIGHTERS. RIGHT, AND THEY'RE DUCKING AND WEAVING AND YEAH THE GLOVES ARE BIGGER THAN THE KIDS, AND WHEN YOU SEE HOW YOUNG IT STARTS AND THE DISCIPLINE THAT COMES, AND THEN WHEN YOU SEE THE OLDER FIGHTERS, YOU JUST HAVE A NEW RESPECT AND BEAUTY FOR THE SPORT. SO THANK YOU FOR ORGANIZING THAT EVENT. IT WAS SPECIAL. MAY I ADD SOMETHING TO DO THAT? THERE WAS ONE GIRL THAT GOT UP AND SPOKE TO IN THE ARENA THAT WAS THE VALEDICTORIAN OF SOUTH GARLAND HIGH SCHOOL THAT STATED THAT IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE BOXING GYM AND THE DISCIPLINE THAT IT GAVE HER TO DO THAT, AND SHE WAS THE VALEDICTORIAN. THAT'S PRETTY AWESOME. THANK YOU GUYS. ALL RIGHT. WE'RE GOING TO NOW MOVE TO FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS. [V.C. Future Agenda Items] SO DISCUSSION ITEM FIVE. SEE THERE ANY FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS. MISS STANLEY. I DO HAVE ONE. COULD WE GET SOME KIND OF A, I DON'T KNOW, STATUS OR SOMETHING OF I REMEMBER THAT WE TOOK DOWN THE GREENHOUSE AT NAAMAN FOREST, AND I THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO PUT IT BACK UP AND JUST THE WHOLE HORTICULTURE PROGRAM IN GENERAL, ARE WE PHASING THAT OUT AND MOVING IT SOMEPLACE ELSE? BECAUSE I FIGURE IF I GET ASKED, YOU GUYS GOTTA BE GETTING ASKED. SO IF WE COULD JUST GET A PRESENTATION OR AN UPDATE ON THAT AT SOME POINT, PLEASE. THANK YOU, MISS STANLEY. ANYBODY ELSE? AWESOME. ALL RIGHT, SO WE'RE GOING TO MOVE TO OUR CONSENT AGENDA AND CONSIDER APPROVAL OF OUR HUMAN RESOURCES REPORT. [VI. Consent Agenda] SO, DOCTOR BROWN. GOOD EVENING, PRESIDENT SELDERS. MEMBERS OF THE BOARD. SUPERINTENDENT LOPEZ. YOU HAVE BEFORE YOU IN YOUR BOARD BOOKS OUR LIST OF NEW AND OR REASSIGNED EMPLOYEES AS WELL AS LIST OF OUR RESIGNING AND RETIRING EMPLOYEES. I WILL GIVE YOU A FEW MINUTES TO LOOK OVER IT AND REVIEW IT, AND PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS. ANY QUESTIONS? MR. MILLER? JUST JUST ONE QUICK ONE. I NOTICED A LOT IN THE PEOPLE LEAVING, THE RESIGNATION, SO FORTH. A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT WERE STEPPING OUT OF GISD TO GO TO OTHER TEXAS SCHOOL DISTRICTS. I'M WONDERING IF THAT, AND IT LOOKED BIGGER THAN MOST YEARS. IT'S A CASUAL OBSERVANCE. I DON'T KNOW THE DATA, BUT IT JUST LOOKED LIKE A LOT, AND I'M WONDERING, IS ANY OF THIS BECAUSE OF MAYBE SOME LEADERSHIP THAT WE LOST TO OTHER DISTRICTS? ARE THEY TAKING SOME EMPLOYEES WITH THEM, OR IS THIS JUST MORE OF A NATURAL TREND THAT YOU'RE SEEING? IT'S A NATURAL TREND AND I HAVEN'T COMPARED NUMBERS, BUT IT'S ABOUT THE SAME AS USUAL. I DO HAVE SOME NUMBERS THAT SAY THAT OUR RETENTION RATE OF OUR STAFF MEMBERS IS HIGHER THAN REGION TEN AND OTHER DISTRICTS IN OUR AREA, SUCH AS DALLAS COUNTY. I'LL ENTERTAIN A MOTION. MR. PRESIDENT, I MOVE THAT WE APPROVE THE HUMAN RESOURCES REPORT AS REPORTED ON BOARD BOOK. SECOND. IT'S BEEN MOVED FOR APPROVAL BY MR. JOHNSON AND SECONDED BY MISS STANLEY. ARE WE PREPARED TO VOTE? VOTE OPEN. VOTE CLOSED. MOTION CARRIES SEVEN ZERO. THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT. WE'LL NOW MOVE TO SECTION SEVEN. [VII.A. Consider Approval of Revisions to Board Operating Procedures] OUR ACTION ITEMS NON CONSENT. SEVEN A WE'RE GOING TO CONSIDER APPROVAL OF REVISIONS TO BOARD OPERATING PROCEDURES. MISS RAY. YES. GOOD EVENING, BOARD PRESIDENT SELDERS, TRUSTEES, DR. LOPEZ. BEFORE YOU IS OUR, I GUESS, OUR FINAL READ OF OUR BOARD OPERATING PROCEDURES. [00:40:02] THE BOARD HAD SEEN THE REVISIONS TO THE BOARD OPERATING PROCEDURES LAST MONTH, AND NOW WE'RE HERE FOR APPROVAL, AND JUST JUST TO REMIND YOU, SOME OF THE FEW CHANGES THAT TOOK PLACE WERE PROTOCOL FOR PLACING ITEMS ON THE AGENDA, OUTLINING THAT BOARD ACTIONS CAN BE NOTED EITHER BY MINUTES OR RECORDING ALIGNING COMMITTEE STRUCTURES WITH EXISTING POLICY SUPERINTENDENT, BOARD SERVICES MANAGER. SUPERVISION AND EVALUATION PROCEDURES FOR BOARD OFFICER, ELECTIONS AND TRAVEL GUIDELINES. THERE WERE NO CHANGES FROM THE LAST READ FROM LAST MONTH. THANK YOU, MISS RAY. TRUSTEES, ANY QUESTIONS? DO I HAVE A MOTION? MR. PRESIDENT, I'D LIKE TO MAKE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE REVISIONS TO THE BOARD OPERATING PROCEDURES. I SECOND IT. IT'S BEEN MOVED BY MR. GLICK, SECONDED BY MISS STANLEY. ANY DISCUSSION? ALL RIGHT. TIME TO VOTE. VOTE OPEN. VOTE CLOSED. THAT MOTION CARRIES SEVEN ZERO. THANK YOU. TRUSTEES. THANK YOU, MISS RAY. NOW MOVE TO ACTION ITEM B, CONSIDER APPROVAL OF THE 2024-2025 STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT. [VII.B. Consider Approval of the 2024-25 Student Code of Conduct (SCOC) ] DOCTOR HEMPHILL. GOOD EVENING, PRESIDENT SELDERS, TRUSTEES AND DOCTOR LOPEZ. THE TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL BOARDS RELEASED THE 2024-25 MODEL STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT, AND THERE WERE NO RECOMMENDED REVISIONS TO THE DOCUMENT BASED ON WHAT WE HAD IN IT LAST YEAR DUE TO THE FACT THAT THIS IS A NON LEGISLATIVE YEAR. WE REQUEST APPROVAL OF THE 2024-25 STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT, AND I HAVE HERE WITH ME THIS EVENING THE DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SERVICES WHO LEADS THIS WORK, MISS MARY GARCIA, IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING THE DOCUMENT. THIS EVENING AND AGAIN, WE DO RECOMMEND APPROVAL. TRUSTEES, ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS? I WILL ENTERTAIN A MOTION. I'LL MAKE A MOTION THAT WE APPROVE OR CONSIDER THE APPROVAL OF THE 2425 STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT AS PRINTED IN OUR BOOKLET TODAY. SECOND. IT'S BEEN MOVED BY MR. BEACH AND SECONDED BY MR. GLICK. ANY DISCUSSION? NO DISCUSSION. WE'LL VOTE. VOTE OPEN. VOTE CLOSED. THAT MOTION CARRIES SEVEN ZERO. ALL RIGHT. NOW WE'LL MOVE TO ACTION ITEM C. [VII.C. Consider Approval of MOU with Dallas County Health & Human Services] CONSIDER APPROVAL OF MOU WITH DALLAS COUNTY HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES DOCTOR HEMPHILL. ALL RIGHT. THIS EVENING, WE'RE HERE TO REQUEST APPROVAL OF OUR MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH THE DALLAS COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT. THIS MOU IS NEEDED TO CONTINUE TO OFFER THE SERVICES THAT WE FORMERLY OFFERED WITH THE GARLAND HEALTH DEPARTMENT. ON THE EVENING OF JUNE 14TH, THE CITY DID PASS AN INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT WITH DALLAS COUNTY TO BEGIN TO PROVIDE THEIR HEALTH SERVICES THROUGH THE DALLAS COUNTY HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES DEPARTMENT. SO WE WOULD JUST LIKE TO EXTEND THE SAME MOU. THERE HAVEN'T BEEN REALLY ANY CHANGES TO THAT MOU THAT WE HAD WITH THE CITY, JUST THE NAME OF THE ORGANIZATION, SO THAT WE CAN CONTINUE TO PROVIDE SERVICES AND IMMUNIZATIONS TO OUR STUDENTS, AND IF YOU WERE READING YOUR BOARD INSIGHTS A FEW WEEKS AGO, YOU CAN SEE THAT THIS PARTNERSHIP THAT WE HAD WITH THE CITY SAVES OUR FAMILIES OVER $800,000 A YEAR. THIS WAS REALLY A BANNER YEAR FOR US, AND WE THINK THAT WE WILL DEFINITELY GROW THE PARTNERSHIP WITH DALLAS COUNTY, AND THIS EVENING I HAVE WITH ME NURSE ZELA DANIEL, WHO DEVELOPED AND MAINTAINS THIS PARTNERSHIP THAT WE HAVE, AND SO SHE IS HERE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE, AND THE WE THE ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THIS MOU, WHICH DOES PROMISE SIGNIFICANT BENEFITS TO OUR FAMILIES. THANK YOU, DOCTOR HEMPHILL. MISS STANLEY. CAN YOU JUST... I'M FOR IT, BUT CAN WE, OUR FAMILIES AREN'T GOING TO REALLY HAVE TO TRAVEL FARTHER THAN WHERE THEY'VE BEEN TRAVELING USING THE GARLAND FACILITIES, CORRECT? IT'LL JUST BE UNDER THE UMBRELLA NOW OF DALLAS COUNTY. YES. SO WE WILL CONTINUE TO PROVIDE VACCINES FREE OF CHARGE OR. YES, THEY'RE COMPLETELY FREE OF CHARGE THROUGH THE STUDENT SERVICES CENTER. SO THEY CAN CONTINUE TO COME TO THE STUDENT SERVICES CENTER. WE'LL JUST RECEIVE AND BE COVERED BY THE COUNTY, AND SO DOCTOR [INAUDIBLE]. AM I SAYING THAT CORRECTLY, SIR? YES? OKAY. WILL BE THE PROVIDER THAT WE'RE ABLE TO PROVIDE THESE SERVICES UNDER. SO WE HAVE TO BE CONNECTED WITH THE DOCTOR IN ORDER TO CONTINUE TO PROVIDE THE SERVICES. [00:45:02] MR. JOHNSON. I NOTICED IN OUR BOARD BOOK WE DIDN'T ACTUALLY GET A COPY OF THE MOU TO REVIEW. DO WE HAVE AN EXECUTIVE SUMMARY? THE MOU I DID NOT RELEASE FOR PUBLIC, BUT IF YOU WOULD LIKE IT, I CAN PROVIDE IT TO YOU. IT WAS IN THE DIGITAL ONE THAT I PROVIDED TO YOU. WELL, AND GENERALLY SPEAKING MOUS AREN'T CONTRACTS NECESSARILY THERE, BUT THEY CAN BE INDICATIVE SOMEWHAT OF LEGAL RESPONSIBILITIES BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN THE TWO PARTIES OR OBVIOUSLY TWO GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES. I SUPPOSE MY CONCERN IS I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT OBLIGATIONS WE'RE UNDER UNDER THIS MOU OTHER THAN, YOU KNOW, PROVIDING PEOPLE, AND THEN THAT'S WHAT WE'RE READING IS GOOD, BUT UNTIL I SEE THE WHOLE THING, I DON'T NECESSARILY KNOW. SO FROM THAT PERSPECTIVE, I THINK I WOULD NEED TO SEE THE ENTIRE MOU. OKAY. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? MISS GRIFFIN? YES, DID DISTRICT LEGAL REVIEW THE MOU? YES. IT WAS REVIEWED BY LEGAL AND APPROVED. THANK YOU. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS AND JUST TO ADD TO THAT AGAIN, THE ONLY REAL CHANGES WERE THE NAME OF THE ORGANIZATION WE NEED TO APPROVE OR NEED TO RECEIVE APPROVAL IN ORDER TO CONTINUE TO PROVIDE VACCINES NEXT MONTH. SO THAT'S WHY WE'RE HERE THIS EVENING. IT WAS A VERY ABRUPT CHANGE. WE THOUGHT WE HAD MUCH LONGER, BUT WE'RE USED TO ABRUPT CHANGES THIS MONTH. YES. WHAT WAS THE NAME OF THE ORGANIZATION PRIOR? WE WERE PROVIDING VACCINES THROUGH THE GARLAND HEALTH DEPARTMENT. OKAY, AND WITHOUT GETTING TOO MUCH INTO WHAT NECESSARILY IS YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT PROMPTED THE CHANGE FROM THE GARLAND HEALTH AUTHORITY TO DALLAS COUNTY? SO I'M GOING TO DEFER TO NURSE ZELA TO EXPLAIN THAT. SHE WAS HOPING SHE WOULD NOT HAVE TO GET UP HERE TODAY. [CHUCKLING] I BELIEVE IT WAS IT WAS A FINANCIAL DECISION TO GO WITH THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT. BASICALLY DALLAS COUNTY IS ASSUMING THE RESPONSIBILITIES THAT THE CITY HAD. IS THE DALLAS COUNTY HEALTH AUTHORITY ASSUMING ASSUMING ALL OF GARLAND HEALTH AUTHORITY'S RESPONSIBILITY OR IS IT JUST VACCINATIONS? ALL. SO WE'RE EFFECTIVELY NO LONGER GOING TO HAVE A SEPARATE HEALTH AUTHORITY IN GARLAND, RIGHT? CORRECT. WELL, THAT ANSWERS MY QUESTION, THEN. THANK YOU. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? I WILL ENTERTAIN A MOTION. MR. MILLER. YES, SIR. I'D LIKE TO MAKE THE MOTION THAT WE APPROVE THIS ITEM AS PRESENTED. SECONDED. IT'S BEEN MOVED BY MR. MILLER AND SECONDED BY MISS STANLEY. ANY ADDITIONAL DISCUSSION? WE'RE READY TO VOTE. VOTE OPEN. FOR VOTE CLOSED. THAT MOTION CARRIES SEVEN ZERO. THANK YOU, DOCTOR HEMPHILL. ALL RIGHT, WE'LL MOVE TO ACTION ITEM D, CONSIDER APPROVAL OF REMOTE HOMEBOUND WAIVER FOR FSP FUNDING. [VII.D. Consider Approval of Remote Homebound Waiver for FSP Funding] DOCTOR RAMOS. GOOD EVENING. PRESIDENT SELDERS, BOARD OF TRUSTEES, AND DOCTOR LOPEZ. IF WE CAN GET THE PRESENTATION UP ON THE SCREEN BEFORE YOU IS THE ANNUAL REQUEST TO SUBMIT A WAIVER FOR REMOTE HOMEBOUND INSTRUCTION IN GARLAND ISD. THIS IS AN ANNUAL REQUEST. WE CURRENTLY HAVE TWO STUDENTS THAT HAVE BEEN USING THESE ROBOTS TO BE PROVIDED THAT REMOTE HOMEBOUND INSTRUCTION. WE'VE BEEN USING THESE ROBOTS FOR OVER TEN YEARS. THEY PROVIDE CONCURRENT OR WHAT WE NOW CALL SYNCHRONOUS INSTRUCTION WHICH HADN'T BEEN AN ISSUE UNTIL WE HAD THE COVID- 19 PANDEMIC, AND OUR STUDENT ATTENDANCE AND ACCOUNTING HANDBOOK DISALLOWED REMOTE HOMEBOUND INSTRUCTION AFTER THAT. THAT WAS SYNCHRONOUS, AND SO NOW, IN ORDER TO CONTINUE TO PROVIDE THIS, WE MUST SUBMIT A FORMAL WAIVER TO THE TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY, AND THAT REQUIRES BOARD APPROVAL. I'VE PROVIDED INFORMATION NEWS LINKS FOR THE USE OF THESE ROBOTS IN THE PAST, SO YOU'RE MORE THAN WELCOME TO REVIEW THOSE AT YOUR LEISURE, BUT THE REQUIREMENTS THAT WE HAVE IN PLACE FOR THESE ROBOTS IS THAT STUDENTS WOULD BE IN EXTREME MEDICAL CIRCUMSTANCES. WE SUBMIT INDIVIDUAL WAIVERS FOR EACH STUDENT, AND WE MUST INCLUDE EVIDENCE OF BOARD APPROVAL TO DO SO. [00:50:12] SO THIS WAIVER IS SO THAT WE CAN GET FOUNDATION SCHOOL PROGRAM FUNDING FOR THE STUDENTS THAT WE PROVIDE THIS HOMEBOUND INSTRUCTION. SO WE SUBMIT THE WAIVER, AND WE ALSO ENSURE THAT THE STUDENTS ART COMMITTEE HAS DETERMINED THAT THIS INSTRUCTION IS BOTH NECESSARY AND APPLICABLE TO THE STUDENT SITUATION AND THAT ALL THE REQUIREMENTS AND PROVISION OF SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES ARE ADHERED TO. ANY QUESTIONS? TRUSTEES, ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS? I WILL ENTERTAIN A MOTION. MR. MILLER. YES, SIR, AND THANK YOU TO THE STAFF, AND THANK YOU, DOCTOR LOPEZ AND ALL OF YOUR ADMINISTRATION FOR THE EFFORTS YOU GO THROUGH TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE TENDING TO THE NEEDS OF ALL OF OUR STUDENTS, AND BASED ON THAT, I'D MAKE A MOTION THAT WE APPROVE THIS ITEM AS PRESENTED HERE TONIGHT. SECOND. IT'S BEEN MOVED BY MR. MILLER, SECONDED BY MR. GLICK. ANY DISCUSSION? ALL RIGHT, WE'RE READY TO VOTE. VOTING OPEN. VOTE CLOSED. THAT MOTION CARRIES SEVEN ZERO. THANK YOU. OUR NEXT ITEM FOR ACTION IS ACTION ITEM E. [VII.E. Consider Approval of Dallas College Certify and Prepare Educators (CAPE) Agreement] CONSIDER APPROVAL OF DALLAS COLLEGE CERTIFY AND PREPARE EDUCATORS OR CAPE AGREEMENT. DOCTOR BROWN. WHILE SHE'S WALKING UP, TRUSTEES, AS A REMINDER, THIS IS A NEW INITIATIVE IN OUR DISTRICT. THE CAPE PROGRAM IS GIVING ACCESS TO A BACHELOR'S DEGREE FOR OUR INSTRUCTIONAL AIDES. THIS AGREEMENT IS THAT PARTNERSHIP WITH DALLAS COLLEGE. GO AHEAD, DOCTOR BROWN. THANK YOU. BOARD OF TRUSTEES, SUPERINTENDENT LOPEZ AND PRESIDENT SELDERS. GOOD EVENING AGAIN. THIS IS OUR MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT WITH DALLAS COLLEGE TO PROVIDE THE NECESSARY SUPPORT AND COURSEWORK TO OUR CAPE INSTRUCTORS, CERTIFY AND PREPARE EDUCATORS. WE CURRENTLY HAVE 47 INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE PARTICIPATING IN THIS PROGRAM, AND ALL 47 EXCEPT TWO HAVE BEEN RECOMMENDED FOR POSITIONS WITH THE DISTRICT, AND I BELIEVE WE HAVE THOSE TWO PLACED AS WELL. THEY WILL BE IN OUR GISD CLASSROOMS AS TEACHERS SLASH INSTRUCTORS THIS FALL WITH THE SUPPORT OF MENTOR TEACHERS AND INSTRUCTIONAL COACHES AS WELL. I ASK THAT YOU APPROVE THIS AGREEMENT WITH DALLAS COLLEGE. THANK YOU, DOCTOR BROWN. TRUSTEES, I WILL ENTERTAIN A MOTION. MR. GLICK, QUESTION? THANK YOU SIR. COULD YOU JUST EXPLAIN THE SAVINGS THAT ARE LISTED HERE? YES, SIR. THE INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE PARTICIPATING IN THE PROGRAM WILL BE WORKING AS FULL TIME TEACHERS WITH A SALARY OF $45,000. THEY WILL. WE WILL ALSO PAY FOR THEM TO COMPLETE THEIR COLLEGE DEGREES, BUT THE ACTUAL SALARY OF A BEGINNING YEAR TEACHER, WHICH YOU APPROVED LAST MONTH, IS 61 FIVE. PART OF THAT SAVINGS WILL BE USED TO PAY TUITION AND BE SAVINGS FOR THE DISTRICT AS WELL. THANK YOU SIR. MISS GRIFFIN. YES. DOCTOR BROWN, I'M EXCITED. I HAVE BEEN APPROACHED AND TALKED TO MANY PEOPLE IN THIS DEPARTMENT FROM DALLAS COLLEGE. IS IT THE UNDERSTANDING THAT ALL OF OUR STAFF THAT GOES THROUGH THIS, THEY WILL COMPLETE THIS PROGRAM WITH CERTIFICATION. SO WHEN THEY CONTINUE AS A GRADUATE WITH US, THEY ARE NOT HAVING TO GET ALTERNATIVE CERTIFIED OR WHATEVER THE PROPER WORDS. WILL THE PROGRAM CERTIFY EVERY PERSON THAT COMPLETES THE PROGRAM? YES, BUT IT WILL BE INCLUDED UNDER THE UMBRELLA OF DALLAS COLLEGE ALTERNATIVE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM. OKAY. SO WE ARE OUT OF TRYING TO GET THEM CERTIFIED. IT'S WHAT WE HAVE TO DO NOW THAT PEOPLE GO ON THEIR OWN AND THESE VARIOUS DIFFERENT VENDORS THAT OFFER ALTERNATIVE CERTIFICATION. NO, MA'AM. THIS IS JUST ONE OF OUR PIPELINES TO BECOME CERTIFIED. WE STILL HAVE TEACHERS WHO ARE IN OTHER. [00:55:02] NO, I'M JUST TALKING ABOUT THE ATTENDEES FROM THIS ONE. YEAH, THE DIFFERENCES FOR CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS, JUST FOR CLARITY, THE PEOPLE THAT COME TO US FOR CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS ARE ALREADY DEGREED WITH BACHELORS. YES. THESE PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE A BACHELOR'S DEGREE. SO WE'RE GOING TO CARRY THEM TO A BACHELOR'S DEGREE AND THROUGH CERTIFICATION. THAT'S MY QUESTION. SO WE'RE GOING TO GET THE DEGREE AND THE CERTIFICATION, BUT WE STILL HAVE EVERYTHING THAT WE HAVE TODAY? YES, MA'AM, BUT I'M JUST SAYING WE'RE NOT GROWING THAT BECAUSE THIS IS GOING TO TAKE CARE OF IT AND GET THEM CERTIFIED AND DEGREED. GOT IT. THANK YOU. MISS STANLEY. HOW DOES ONE OF OUR EMPLOYEES APPLY FOR THIS? WE OPENED APPLICATIONS LAST JANUARY AND WE WILL OPEN APPLICATIONS AGAIN THIS COMING JANUARY. WE'RE ANTICIPATING ADDING AN ADDITIONAL 50 CANDIDATES FOR NEXT YEAR, AND WOULD AT ONE TIME GROW UP TO 150 CANDIDATES IN THIS PROGRAM. THIS IS FILLING A NEED OF THE DISTRICT. MR. MILLER. YEAH FOR LACK OF A BETTER WORD, IS THIS, LIKE A CONTRACT BETWEEN US AND THOSE EMPLOYEES WHERE ONCE THEY ARE CERTIFIED AND BECOME CERTIFIED TEACHERS, THEY WILL COME BACK TO THE DISTRICT? OR IS THERE SOME OPTIONS THERE? NO, WE DON'T HAVE THAT TYPE OF CONTRACT. MANY OF THE INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE IN THE PROGRAMS HAVE BEEN IN THE DISTRICT FOR YEARS AND SERVING AS INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANTS. THEY HAVE FAMILIES WHO ARE A PART OF THE COMMUNITY AND THEY PLAN TO STAY. ALTHOUGH WE DO ASK THAT QUESTION AND I ALWAYS SAY, I DON'T WANT TO BE THE BILL COLLECTOR. SO WHILE THEY'RE IN THE PROGRAM, ARE THEY TEACHING? YES. THEY ARE TEACHERS? YES. SO, THAT'S WHY YOU COMPARE THEM TO A STARTING SALARY OF A TEACHER. YES. OKAY. THANK YOU. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, TRUSTEES? OKAY. I WILL ENTERTAIN A MOTION. MR. PRESIDENT. YES. MR. JOHNSON, I MOVE THAT WE APPROVE THE DALLAS COLLEGE CERTIFY AND PREPARE EDUCATORS CAPE AGREEMENT AS PRESENTED TONIGHT. SECOND. IT'S BEEN MOVED BY MR. JOHNSON AND SECONDED BY MISS STANLEY. ANY ADDITIONAL DISCUSSION? WE'RE PREPARED TO VOTE. VOTE OPEN. VOTE CLOSED. THAT MOTION CARRIES SEVEN ZERO. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT. WE'RE GOING TO NOW MOVE TO SECTION F UNDER NEW BIDS F ONE. ARE THEY GOING TO GET IT THERE AND THEN TRY TO FIND OUT WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THAT EMPLOYEE? [01:00:01] WHEN WE SAY TRACKING AN EMPLOYEE? SO MANY YEARS AGO, WHEN I WAS AN ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL, EVERY MORNING I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO ACCEPT CALLS WHEN TEACHERS WERE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO ATTEND SCHOOL THAT DAY. WE NO LONGER DO THAT. THIS IS A COMPUTER SYSTEM THAT A TEACHER CAN LOG INTO, PUT THEIR ABSENCES IN THE SUBSTITUTES, SEE WHERE THE ABSENCES ARE, AND THEY ACCEPT THE SUBSTITUTE POSITION. SO IT'S A TRACKING SYSTEM FOR OUR ABSENCES, AND WE CAN SEE WHY PEOPLE ARE ABSENT. SO WHEN WE'RE TRACKING THOSE INDIVIDUALS AND LIKE YOU SAID, I CAN REMEMBER BEING AN ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AND I HAD TO DO THE CALL IN FOR THE PEOPLE WOULD CALL ME AND THEN TRY TO GET THE SUBS. SO IN OTHER WORDS, THEY I KNOW THEY GO TO OUR DEPARTMENT IF THEY'RE GOING TO PICK UP A JOB AT A LOCATION.
